My Story
There are many stories we tell ourselves to explain the wounds hidden within… “It was immensely painful. It was truly difficult. But, it made me stronger, it made me a fighter!” (anonymous)
When I trace back my own story, I can sense the little girl within me who was held by her elders so that she builds sturdiness in her spine and leans into trusting her gut. Yet as I dig deeper, I also come into contact with the many painful experiences that tainted her mind and shook up my inner world!
Like the one that led me to fear loss; so I compensate by holding onto people super tight… Or the one where I would insidiously care for others with a promise of being seen; meanwhile, my wants and needs were disowned and never prioritized… And even the moments where I was faced with the undeniable lack of safety in this world as a woman; so I keep watching my back again and again! As expected, these pain stories did not flourish into resilience but rather became imprinted into my nervous system like a million papercuts that burn and leave little scars.
In time, I came to learn that pain stories don’t simply translate into wisdom or strength! Yet, many of us interchangeably and unconsciously use the phrase “it made me stronger” instead of “it just robbed me”! And the cost of holding onto pain stories is that they remain “undigested”: they sicken the cells in our body, constrict our mind and separate us from human connection.
So, I invite you to begin a new journey with me… To search for what was taken…
To re-write your story… And to build pillars in your life from which you can seed resilience in the way it was designed to be.
