Real Support, Lower Cost

Access quality therapy in Toronto without the financial strain. Our student and qualifying therapists offer reduced-fee sessions backed by experienced clinical supervision — so you receive thoughtful care that fits your life.

What is the Therapist-in-Training Program?

Affordable care, backed by clinical expertise.

Our Therapist-in-Training Program allows us to offer high-quality therapy at a reduced cost, while also supporting the next generation of psychotherapists. Every therapist-in-training is part of our Community of Practice, which means they don’t work in isolation — they’re supported by a collaborative, experienced clinical team that ensures you receive the best care possible.

We have two tiers of therapists-in-training:

Student Therapists

Student therapists are completing the practicum portion of their graduate-level psychotherapy training. They are carefully selected, closely supervised, and deeply committed to growing as therapists.

    • Currently enrolled in an accredited psychotherapy program
    • Completing their first or second year clinical practicum
    • Receive weekly supervision and training by our senior clinical team
    • Supported by case consultations and guided mentorship
    • Work under the ethical guidelines of their educational institution

Many clients describe working with student therapists as feeling especially collaborative and human — a real partnership in healing, with someone deeply engaged in learning and growth.

Qualifying Therapists

Qualifying therapists, or Registered Psychotherapists (Qualifying), have completed their education and are now building the required clinical experience to register fully with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).

    • Hold a Master’s-level degree in psychotherapy or counselling psychology
    • Registered with CRPO as RP (Qualifying) — a legally recognized professional status
    • Undergo regular supervision with licensed, fully registered psychotherapists
    • Bound by the same code of ethics and professional standards as RPs
    • Trained in evidence-based approaches and integrative therapies

According to the CRPO and First Session Canada, RP(Q)s are fully authorized to provide psychotherapy services in Ontario — and your sessions may even be eligible for insurance coverage depending on your plan.

Why this matters for you:

Clients in this program still receive personalized, high-quality therapy — but at a more accessible rate and often with faster availability.

You’ll be working with a thoughtful, well-trained therapist who’s eager to help you grow, with the added benefit of a whole team behind them. Think of it as having one therapist, plus a braintrust of experienced minds quietly behind the scenes.

Faster Access, Same Compassion

You shouldn’t have to wait months to feel better. Our affordable therapy program offers shorter wait times and quick matching, so you can start healing sooner — with someone who truly sees you.

Why Choose Affordable Therapy at Inner Summits?

Because therapy should be within reach — not behind a paywall.

We created this program to honour both sides of the therapeutic relationship: your need for accessible care, and our commitment to offering it with integrity, skill, and heart.

When you work with a therapist-in-training here, you’re not getting less — you’re getting differently supported. Backed by a team of licensed clinicians, rooted in evidence-based care, and held within a compassionate Community of Practice, our affordable therapy offers real healing, not just symptom management.

    • Lower cost: Access therapy at reduced rates without compromising quality
    • Quicker access: Shorter wait times to get started
    • Support from a team: Your therapist is backed by an entire clinical team
    • Rooted in values: We believe in community care, guided growth, and equity in healing
    • You’re not alone: You’ll be met with warmth, curiosity, and respect — wherever you’re starting from

Because healing shouldn’t depend on privilege. It should depend on connection — and that’s what we offer, at every level of care.

Guided by Experience, Rooted in Community

Every therapist-in-training is part of a supportive Community of Practice, meaning your care is informed by over 25 years of collective wisdom. It’s affordable therapy — with a village behind it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is affordable therapy right for me?

If you’re looking for counselling in Toronto at a reduced rate, want to begin therapy sooner, or are new to the process — affordable therapy is a great place to start.

How much does it cost?

Rates vary depending on the therapist’s level of training. We offer a sliding scale between $75–$125 per session.

What issues can I work on?

Anxiety, stress, depression, relationship issues, life transitions, grief, trauma, identity, and more. If you’re human, there’s a place for you here.

Is it covered by insurance?

Most insurance plans don’t differentiate between a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). If your benefits include coverage for “Registered Psychotherapy,” sessions with an RP(Q) are typically eligible for reimbursement.

In the rare case that your provider requires a fully licensed RP, your therapist can include their clinical supervisor’s name and credentials on your receipt — which is often enough to meet insurance requirements.
